Office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

This office approves all plans for new building construction, additions, repairs, and renovations to existing buildings, as well as plans for signs, fences, sprinkler systems, pools, and accessory structures. A permit must be secured prior to commencement of work.   This permit will be issued and payment accepted at Inspection Services, 1210 Walker Chapel Road, Fultondale, Alabama 35068, 205.841.8306.

Inspections of work performed are scheduled through Inspection Services (205.841.8306).  No inspection will be scheduled for work done without a permit.  A 24 hour notice is required on all inspections.  Inspections are scheduled on a first come, first served basis for the various inspectors who work in an assigned area.  Many inspections require that the contractor be on site for the inspection.

Building plans are generally approved within seventy-two (72) hours of receipt, excluding weekends and holidays. Plans will not be reviewed until all required documentation is submitted including an application, two full sets of building plans, a plot plan showing the location of the improvement with distances to lot lines and all easements, sanitary sewer or septic tank approval and a Stormwater/Land Disturbance permit.

Commercial Building plans for one and two story construction are approved when all information is received and reviewed. Additional time is required for plan review on construction exceeding two stories.  This process may also include review by the fire marshall on sprinkler systems and/or other fire suppression systems.

Builders working in the area for the first time are required to schedule a meeting with the inspections department to go over procedures and requirements.

This office inspects the installation of public infrastructure within new commercial and residential subdivision developments in compliance with an approved development plan.
